Hello and thank you for visiting!

My name is Sanne and I have kept ducks and chickens for most of my life. I am Danish and have lived in the UK since I was a spring chicken!

The fascination with Swedish Flower Chickens started when I visited a Swedish friend at her little homestead.
It was love at first sight and I decided to keep just a few of these amazingly beautiful and rare chickens.

After some considerable research, I found an expert, Scandinavian breeder who helped me establish my flock of happy, healthy, purebred Swedish Flower Chickens, here in the UK. We now provide birds to all corners of the UK.

Tucked away in 20 acres of beautiful West Sussex countryside, the chickens are allowed to run free in our wild flower meadows and gardens. Because our farm is not easily accessible, you can also buy them from a couple of dedicated, excellent stockists and we can arrange a bird courier service too.

My breeding flock is just over 100 birds which is necessary to avoid inbreeding of birds from such a narrow genetic pool. My overall objective, is to keep this ancient breed exactly as it has been for the past 300 years and I follow the breeding guide from the Swedish Rare Breed Association. This means that you can be certain that the hens you buy are 100% pure Swedish Flower Chicken.

Hopefully, this lovely, historic breed may continue to delight chicken fanciers in the future. Contact Swedishflowerchickens.com today for more information.

Swedish Flower Chickens are so named due to the white
or black flecks/flowers on the tips of their feathers. The breed was close to extinction in the 1970s, however a few enthusiasts found an adequate amount of survivors to create a sufficient gene pool, to thankfully ensure the continuation of the breed. The base colouring varies from black to yellow, red or blue, all which have the black or white flecks/flowers as mentioned earlier.
Some may also have a small coif on the top of their heads. No two Swedish Flower Chickens are the same, which makes them all the more unique and for the chicken lovers amongst us, rather endearing.

An adult hen generally weighs between 2 to 2.5kg. These are very hardy birds. The breed itself is very robust and copes well with cold winters. (Which appear to be becoming the norm in the UK of late.) They are calm, pleasant natured birds which are well suited to a free range or large pen environment. Each hen will reward you with up to 200 eggs a year, these eggs have a beautiful cream coloration and weigh around 60 grams. Egg laying does continue into November however the production does decrease at this time. If you would like any help or advice, contact our farm in West Sussex.
